Olympic Tennis Paris

The roots of tennis can be traced back to the 11th century in France, where the precursor to the sport, known as the "jeu de paume," originated. This early version of tennis was played in the courtyards of monasteries and involved using the palm of the hand to strike a ball against walls and sloping roofs. However, it was during the 19th century in England that tennis as we know it today took shape. With the sport's popularity surpassing that of croquet, the All England Croquet Club made the decision to dedicate its lawns to the game of tennis. As the 19th century progressed, numerous national federations were established worldwide, leading to the formation of the International Lawn Tennis Federation (ILTF) in 1913, marking a significant milestone in the sport's history.

Olympic Boxing Paris

The sport of boxing traces its origins back to ancient times. As early as the late 7th century BC, boxing made its debut in the ancient Olympic Games, where athletes utilized soft leather thongs to protect their hands and forearms during matches.

Although boxing seemed to fade away with the decline of the Roman Empire, it resurfaced in 17th century England. It was during this time that records of amateur boxing were first documented, with the year 1880 marking a significant milestone. Initially, the sport featured five weight categories for competition: bantamweight (up to 54kg), featherweight (up to 57kg), lightweight (up to 63.5kg), middleweight (up to 73kg), and heavyweight (over 73kg). These divisions allowed for fair and balanced matchups among boxers of varying sizes and strengths.

Olympic Athletics Paris

Athletics, a sport deeply rooted in history, made its debut in the inaugural ancient Olympic Games. Dating back to 776 BC, it holds the distinction of being the oldest documented sport, with the names of champions preserved through the ages. The ancient Olympics featured various events, including running races and a pentathlon encompassing a running race, long jump, discus throw, javelin throw, and wrestling.

Fast forward to the modern era, and the first organized athletic meets resembling the competitions we recognize today took place in Shropshire, England, in 1840. These events marked the beginning of a new chapter in athletics. By the 1880s, similar championships started gaining momentum and spreading across regions like England, the United States, and Europe.

In 1912, a significant milestone was reached with the establishment of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), now known as World Athletics. This international governing body was formed to oversee and regulate global athletics competitions, ensuring standardization and fair competition at an international level. Since then, the IAAF, now World Athletics, has played a pivotal role in shaping the sport and organizing prestigious events worldwide.
