British rising star Jack Draper, currently ranked world 31st, secured his maiden ATP Tour title at the Stuttgart Open, showcasing resilience and skill on the grass courts of Germany. The 22-year-old Draper battled back from a set down to defeat Italy’s Matteo Berrettini with a score of 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.
Reflecting on his victory, Draper expressed his joy, stating, “It’s incredible. I’m really happy to win my first title, it means so much to me. There have been a lot of up and down moments over the last few years but this is a testament to the hard work that I’ve been putting in.”
Berrettini, a 2021 Wimbledon finalist, broke Draper in the fourth game to take the first set. The second set was tightly contested, with both players holding serve. Draper missed two set points at 5-4 but eventually won the tie-break 7-5 to level the match.
In the final set, Draper broke Berrettini at 3-3 and then held serve twice to seal the win.
Draper aims to build momentum for Wimbledon, starting on July 1, with a return to English soil for the Queen’s Club Championships next week, which you can see for the best value with Aceify.
