Jannik Sinner celebrated his first title as the world’s top-ranked player by defeating Hubert Hurkacz at the Halle Open. The 22-year-old Italian won the match in straight sets, 7-6 (10-8), 7-6 (7-2), capturing his first grass-court title.

Sinner, who ascended to the world number one position earlier in June, following his maiden Grand Slam victory at the Australian Open in January, demonstrated his dominance on the court. His win over Hurkacz, with whom he also teamed up in doubles at the tournament, marks another milestone in his stellar season.

Reflecting on his performance, Sinner expressed his excitement for the upcoming Wimbledon, where he will be the top seed. “I’m just looking forward to Wimbledon. Last year I made the semis, I played some good tennis, so let’s see what’s coming this year,” he said. “I’m more confident for sure. Obviously, the grass might be a bit different from here and Wimbledon. But I have one week now to prepare, so hopefully, it’s going to be a good tournament.”

This season, Sinner has been formidable, suffering only three defeats – twice to Carlos Alcaraz at the French Open and Indian Wells, and once to Stefanos Tsitsipas in Monte Carlo. As Wimbledon approaches, he aims to surpass last year’s semi-final run and contend for the prestigious title.
